Pictures of the exotic birds have been flying into our inbox since we asked residents to send in their photos, with some showing concern for the native wildlife upset by the parakeets.

Submissions to the Express & Star show the colourful birds flying, eating and playing in back gardens, fields and tree lines across the region.

However, some experts have warned the increase in sightings "may not be a good thing" for native wildlife.

Alison Hannon, from Wolverhampton, talked about the birds, saying: "These have been with us for a few weeks now, living in the row of trees at the back along with the buzzards, pigeons and magpies.

"Every morning I open the back door and they go crazy and fly down to the garden, we watch them through the binoculars. Very interesting how they interact with other birds. They are definitely not scared."
