The county has committed to planting 150,000 trees across the county over the next five years.

Tree planting has now begun near to the Blackstone Picnic Place site in Bewdley.

The first 3,000 trees will be the start of a new woodland on the Bewdley site, with more to be added in 2021.

Worcestershire County Council’s planting pledge will help enhance the local environment and create at least two new woodland areas in the county for residents and visitors to enjoy in years to come.

Councillor Tony Miller, cabinet member with responsibility for the environment, said: “It’s great to be taking the first steps in creating new woodland areas across the county, and it’s a real milestone to be planting the first trees at our Bewdley site.

Legacy

"I’d like to take the opportunity to thank local member Councillor Ian Hardiman for his ongoing commitment and support towards this project.

"We are making this commitment to plant these trees over the next five years on our own land, it is a real sign of the progress we are making in improving our local environment.

We’re really keen for the new woodland areas to become something our residents and our local communities can really become involved in, particularly at the Bewdley site.

"I hope this inspires other organisations to join us in planting more trees on land they own so further new woodlands can be created to create a lasting green legacy for future generations.”

The Woodland Trust are heavily involved with the project and the charity will be supplying the 150,000 trees.

The Council has also been working closely with the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Patrick Holcroft to bring the new woodland to the county.
