At the start of the lockdown in March, Dudley Council took the decision to postpone the green waste start date in order to ensure household waste and recycling collections could continue with a reduced workforce.

The authority has now announced it will be adding the two missed collections scheduled for April to the original collection programme. It means that some households will now have collections going into early December.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said: "We reluctantly took the difficult, but correct decision earlier in the year to postpone the introduction of our green waste collections so that we could safeguard household waste and recycling provision for our residents.

"I am really glad that as promised we’re now able to add those two missed dates to the end of the 2020 schedule, allowing us to help residents who are having a final clear-up of their garden ahead of winter.

"For residents this means that following their last scheduled green collection on their calendar they will have another one on the same day in two weeks and four weeks time."

Green-fingered residents can still order discounted compost bins to recycle their garden waste into useful compost for their garden, details can be found on the DudleyRecycles website.
