Developers have lodged a planning application for 79 houses to be built on Bourne Street and Elmdale Road in Coseley.

It comes after the initial plans were rejected by Dudley Council only to be overturned by the planning inspectorate.

Concerns have been raised that the land is contaminated with asbestos while schools, doctor's surgeries and roads will be put under added pressure.

Councillor Adam Aston, of Upper Gornal and Woodsetton, said: "My colleague councillor Kieran Casey and I have opposed the development of this site for a number of years and were disappointed when then planning inspectorate overturned the decision of Dudley Council and granted outline planning permission.

"We share the concerns of local residents regarding issues of contamination, given its history as land fill, as well as the potential detrimental effects of increased traffic and pressure on local services.

"We have written to residents who may be affected by the development to ensure they can have their say on the forthcoming application and will continue to engage with the developer and planning officers to make sure the concerns of our constituents are heard."
