Sedgley park spruced up with £5,000 grant
A park in a Black Country village has been spruced up thanks to a £5,000 grant from a community fund.
Vicar Street Gardens, located in between Ladies Walk and Vicar Street, in Sedgley, has received a new tarmac pavement while hedges and grass have been trimmed.
The money for the work came from Dudley Council through the Coseley East and Sedgley Community Forum.
Sedgley councillor Michael Evans said: "The park has been really smartened up. I think it was well worth doing."
The site was once formerly a graveyard.
It comes as fellow Sedgley councillor Shaun Keasey launched plans for a Spruce Up Sedgley day - involving members of the community -to help tidy up areas around the village.
The event is planned either for an autumn or spring clean once Government guidelines around coronavirus are relaxed.
It could see a new feature installed permanently on Sedgley's bullring island, although no other details have been revealed yet.
Speaking in a Conservative community newsletter, called the Dudley Champion, Councillor Keasey said: "Many people have expressed to me that Sedgley is beginning to feel tired and in need of some tender loving care.
"I totally agree, and Spruce Up Sedgley is designed for as many of our residents as possible to come together and give our town a good clean, some colour and hopefully a new central feature on the Bullring Island.
"There are already local groups and individuals who help around the town.
"If we can also involve residents and local businesses I'm sure we can make Sedgley look great."
The campaign would include litter picking, road and street sign cleaning, flower planting and the potential refurbishment of street furniture in Vicar Street Gardens.
