Swan deaths at Fens Pool Nature Reserve spark RSPCA fears
Three swans were found dead at a Dudley nature reserve - sparking an appeal from the RSPCA for more information.
The swans, all aged around two, were found by a member of the public at Fens Pool Nature Reserve.
Their deaths, which happened two weeks ago, have not been explained and there were no obvious wounds on their bodies.
RSPCA inspector Kelly Lake said: "We do not know if these swans died maliciously or whether this is natural, but due to the fact that three dead swans were found in the same area on the same day, there are some concerns that they could have been harmed deliberately.
"We are also concerned about a family of swans - two adults and seven cygnets - which have disappeared from the nature reserve after living there for many years. The family was last seen the week before the three swans were found. We do not know if this is connected but we cannot rule anything out until we have more information."
"We are appealing for anyone who may have any information or if they saw anything suspicious at the nature reserve during the week of Monday 2 November to contact us on 0300 123 8018."
The Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 makes it illegal to kill or injure a swan, or disturb a swan's nest. Anyone convicted of such an offence can face a fine of up to six months custody and/or a fine of up to £5,000.
