The woman, in her 20s, was suffering from neck and chest pain after the two-car smash on Mount Pleasant, Bilston, just after 7.30am.

She was taken by land ambulance to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

A second woman from the same car and a man, who was driving the other vehicle, were given first aid but declined to be assessed by paramedics.

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS), West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) and West Midlands Police all attended the crash, which left the road closed and drivers facing delays.

Neil Spencer, a spokesman for WMFS which sent crews from Bilston and Willenhall stations to the scene, said: "We got the call at 7.31 this morning to Mount Pleasant, Bilston. It was a 999 call reporting a road traffic collision.

"We sent two fire engines, a total of 10 firefighters.

"We made the vehicles safe and left just after 10 past eight."

Police were called by the fire service to help control the traffic while the ambulance service assessed the casualties.

Jamie Arrowsmith, a spokesman for WMAS, said: "We sent one ambulance, a paramedic support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford. Nobody was trapped in the vehicles.

"The female driver complaining of neck and chest pain was conscious on the side of the road when we arrived. She was given pain relief and taken to New Cross Hospital."
