Four men suffer suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at Cradley Heath factory
Four men were taken to hospital after suffering the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning at a factory today.
Emergency services were called to Central Steel Pickling Ltd, in Old Hill, Cradley Heath, in the early hours.
They found four patients, all men, two with a 'reduced level of consciousness' at the scene at around 2.15am.
It happened in a single-storey warehouse close to forklift trucks they were using.
Ten firefighters worked with specially trained hazardous area paramedics to help the men.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to allow them to get close to assess the situation at the factory site, in Powke Lane.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "Crews arrived to find four patients, all men, two of whom are reported to have suffered a reduced level of consciousness prior to the arrival of ambulance staff.
"All four patients were found to have high carbon monoxide readings and after receiving treatment at the scene were transported to Russells Hall Hospital."
West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Neil Spencer said crews began to scale down their involvement at the scene at around 4.40am.
Crews from Oldbury and Haden Cross fire stations used fans to ventilate the building.
