Casualties freed in Wolverhampton crash - with pictures

Three people had to be freed by firefighters in Wolverhampton after a two-vehicle smash that ended with a car ploughing through metal barriers and into trees.

The crash happened between a black 4x4 and a silver hatchback at the traffic lights between Tettenhall Road and Henwood Road opposite Majestic Wine in Tettenhall on Saturday at around 8am.

The silver car crashed through two barriers, which were ripped out of the pavement.

Fire crews from Wolverhampton and Fallings Park stations were called. Cutting gear wasn't needed, but firefighters helped the man and two women in the silver car escape through the boot before making the area safe. The vehicles were removed from the scene by 9.30am.

West Midlands Fire tweeted: "Crews from @Wton_fire & @FallingsPark dealing with RTC on Henwood Road, Tettenhall. Casualties freed, technical rescue providing assistance."
