Three crews from West Midlands Fire Service were called to the address on Wells Road in Brierley Hill at 8.30am.

They found the fire in the ground floor living room of a two-story home. The rest of the house had become heavily smoked and the firefighters from Brierley Hill, Stourbridge and Haden Cross shut the utilities off in the home.

A spokeswoman for WMFS said: "Both persons were accounted for. They were taken to Russell Halls hospital for a check up."

Firefighter Andrew Tansley, from Brierly Hill station, confirmed the fire was suspected arson.

He added: "It was believed to be an empty property and the two taken to hospital for precautionary checks were from next door."
