The passenger, a 22-year-old woman, sustained serious arm and leg injuries.

She was trapped in the car for around 45 minutes before being cut free.

She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, where she remains in a stable condition.

Two ambulances were sent to the scene along paramedics and a doctor.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service critical care car also arrived to assist.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "On arrival, crews discovered two patients who were still inside the car following the collision.

"The driver, a man, was found to be in cardiac arrest and was rapidly freed from the car in order for CPR and advanced life support to commence.

"However, despite everyone's best efforts it unfortunately became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Tony and Jill Hunt's property was most severely damaged in the crash, including a recently bought Toyota Aygo which had been parked on their drive.

The BMW involved in the crash smashed into it and the couple believe it will be a write-off.

Mr Hunt, aged 45, said: "We had just gone to bed at about 9.50pm I were just falling asleep when we heard an almighty bang.

"We thought someone had come through our living room it was that loud.

"I got straight onto the police and looked out of the window. It was complete carnage.

"The car involved was stuck half on our side of the wall and half over next door."

The street was cordoned off from Fullbrook Road.

Neighbours gathered outside in the aftermath of the crash.

Crews from Walsall fire station were among those to arrive at the scene.

The road has now been re-opened.
