M6 crash leaves motorway blocked for four hours causing long delays for motorists
A crash led to the closure of one of the busiest sections of the M6 for almost four hours leaving long delays for motorists.
The crash, between a lorry and a car, happened on the northbound section between junction 7 for Great Barr and junction 8 for the M5 link towards West Bromwich.
Officers from Central Motorway Police Group tweeted a picture showing part of the motorway cordoned off due to the crash.
The smash happened at around 6.30am.
Debris was scattered along the carriageway as crews from Perry Barr and West Bromwich fire stations attended the scene.
Highways England say there are delays of more than an hour due to the crash.
Queues led back past junction 6 at Spaghetti Junction for the A38(M) Aston Expressway to junction 5 at Castle Bromwich.
Workers cleared wreckage and a diesel spill in the aftermath.
There are also knock on delays southbound with traffic slowing past the crash site with queues now backing up towards Wolverhampton.
There are also reports of delays around Great Barr off junction 7 due to queues getting on and off the motorway, especially around the Scott Arms area.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said a 27-year-old woman and her three-year-old son had been in the car.
But despite being shaken they were uninjured.
He added: "The crash left the car at right angles to the carriageway against the lorry.
Highways England confirmed the motorway had fully reopened at around 11.20am but some delays remained.
