West Midlands Police officers injured after patrol car crashed on call out to robbery
Two police officers were taken to hospital after their patrol car crashed on a call out to a robbery.
Paramedics and fire crews worked to help the officers, a man and woman, inside the car following the crash in Birmingham.
The Vauxhall Insignia police car crashed with a blue Ford Fiesta close to the Barton Arms pub, in Newtown.
The smash happened at around 6.30pm yesterday at the junction of High Street and Newbury Road.
West Midlands Police said the officers were going to the scene of a robbery in Nechells when the crash happened.
Crews from Aston fire station were among the emergency services that went to the crash.
Inspector Tony Cole, of West Midlands Police, said an investigation was under way into the cause of the crash.
The two officers were treated for minor injures and taken to Sandwell Hospital as a precaution.
"No arrests have been made and the two officers who were in the police car - which was responding to reports of a robbery in Nechells - were taken to hospital for a check-up," he said.
"The driver and passenger of the Fiesta did not require hospital treatment. Other officers attended the robbery report.
"Witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers should call police on 101 and investigators are reviewing CCTV.
"We wish everyone involved the best as they recover from the shock of the crash."
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said three ambulances were sent to the scene.
He confirmed two patients from the second car were assessed and did not need to go to hospital.
