Six people found in back of a lorry on A5 at Cannock
A pregnant woman was part of a group that was released from the back of a lorry in Cannock.
A motorist called police as he saw hands appear from the back of a lorry travelling along the A5 yesterday afternoon.
Officers were sent to stop the lorry and bolt cutters were used to open the back of the vehicle.
The police found three adults, including the woman, and three children, in the back of the truck.
The people, who are believed to be foreign nationals, were taken to a police station.
Paramedics were called to check them over.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said the force had been in contact with the Home Office to understand what further steps could be followed.
He was unable to confirm what had happened to the lorry's driver, who was also thought to be foreign.
A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said an ambulance and a community paramedic had been sent to a police station at 3.02pm where the six people had been taken.
But she was unable to give any further information on their condition.
