Baby girl dies after plunging seven floors from Birmingham tower block
An 18-month-old girl has died after falling from the seventh floor of a block of flats in Birmingham.
Police have launched an investigation in the child's death, which happened yesterday morning.
The young girl fell from a window at the high-rise block, West Midlands Police said.
She died at the scene.
The incident happened at the flats in Great Hampton Row, Hockley, at around 11.55am.
Police spokesman Gina Lycett said the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
A post mortem will take place in due course. The coroner has been informed.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Claire Brown "Crews arrived to find a girl who had fallen from a window.
Two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.
A local shop owner, who did not want to be named, said: "I was inside my shop when I heard people shouting and screaming and heard the bad news.
"People are very, very sad - they are feeling it very bad. I don't know the family, they might have been new to the area.
"It is quite a close community, there are two big communities here - the Jamaican community and Somalian community, they have a good relationship with each other.
"From what I saw people are very sad from this incident."
