Two men taken to hospital after car overturns on M5

Two men were taken to hospital after a 4x4 crashed onto its roof along a motorway.

The men freed themselves from the vehicle before being treated for minor injuries by paramedics and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Emergency services were called to the scene on Wednesday evening between junction two and three on the M5 following a 999 call.

The vehicle appeared to be towing a trailer before the crash.

Staff from Smethwick fire station tweeted from the scene and said: Be careful when towing.

Pictures taken from the scene show a black 4x4 vehicle lying on its roof next to a white trailer.

The vehicle suffered damage to its roof and body work.

West Midlands Ambulances Service spokesman Claire Brown said: "West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 2 and 3, Rowley Regis, at 8.24pm.

"An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and a MERIT trauma doctor attended.

"Two patients had self-extricated from the overturned car. Both sustained minor injuries and were given treatment on scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham as a precaution."

West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Matthew Smith said: "Three fire engines attended the scene with crews from Smethwick, Woodgate Valley and Northfield.

"The incident was a road collision involving one overturned car and trailer which had come to rest on a motorway.

"Fire crews made the scene safe."
