Lorry drivers injured in A38 crash and road closed

Two HGV drivers were injured when their vehicles collided in Lichfield today.

It happened on the A38 northbound at Weeford at around 3.20am, leaving a driver in his 60s with serious arm and abdominal injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "The man was treated at the scene by ambulance medics and his condition was stabilised. Following treatment the man was transferred to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment.

"The man driving the second lorry suffered a minor head injury and received treatment at the scene by medics."

The A38 will remain closed northbound throughout this afternoon while damage to the road surface caused by a spill during the crash is repaired.
