The victim had been blocked in by another car, which the attacker was a passenger in, being driven by a man who had gone to nearby shops.

The victim asked how long it would be before the car would be moved, and was verbally abused by the attacker, who was sat in a grey VW Tournan.

The victim, who was 44 and driving a Ford C-Max, went another route and parked nearby to go to shops.

Footage released today shows how the Touran passenger then got out of her car, grabbed the victim by the hair and threw her over a table outside Shalil Food store in Wellington Road, Handsworth Wood.

She was pulled to her feet by the hair and thrown to the floor again, leaving her with a lump to her head and bruising. The attacker went to a nearby shop and returned to see her victim noting down her car's registration. The assault resumed before the attacker returned to her own car with the driver and left the scene.

The attacker was white, in her early 20s, with long brown hair tied back in a pony-tail, and wearing a black vest top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

It happened at around 1pm on July 30, but the footage was released today.

Pc Geraldine Sprigg from Birmingham West and Central said: "This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a woman who had asked the driver to move her car which was blocking the road.

"The assault took place in the middle of the day and we are asking for anyone who say the incident or who recognises the woman driver to contact us. The woman assaulted suffered pain and discomfort following the attack and may have lost consciousness for a short time."

Anyone with information should call police at Birmingham West and Central on 101 or call Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 55 111.
