Man airlifted after stabbing near Wolverhampton bookmaker

A man was airlifted to hospital after being stabbed following a fight near a bookies in Wolverhampton.

Police descended on the William Hill betting shop in Whitmore Reans at 12.55pm this afternoon.

The injured man, in his 20s, had been stabbed in the back and was airlifted to hospital, with the Midlands Air Ambulance landing at nearby West Park.

He also suffered a head injury.

The area was cordoned off while police continued their investigations.

The man was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and was said to be in a stable condition.

He received help from staff at the bookies before paramedics arrived.

No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident.

Amir Singh Sahota, of nearby The Cook's Bakery, described the aftermath of the fight as 'chaotic'.

He said: "A fight broke out and it seemed like the guy had been stabbed in the back."

West Midlands Police spokesman Brigg Ford said: "Police are investigating after a man was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his back following a fight near William Hill bookmakers in Bargate Drive, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton just before 1pm today.

"He is in a stable condition in hospital."
