Suspected drink-driver arrested as car rolls onto roof in Halesowen
A car rolled over three times before coming to a rest on its roof during a crash in Halesowen today – one of a spate of smashes on roads in the Black Country.
The female driver and passenger were able to get out of the stricken blue Vauxhall Corsa as crews arrived at the scene. The driver, a woman aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
The crash partially blocked Narrow Lane as firefighters helped make sure that the vehicle was safe.
Street signs were knocked down as the Corsa rolled down the road leaving wooden panels and debris scattered along the street. The roof of the car had taken most of the impact of the accident although side windows had been cracked.
Fire crews from Cradley and Oldbury stations attended the accident at around 6.30am today to find the car on its roof.
Paramedics arrived to treat the two women in the car for minor injuries.
One lane of the road remained blocked while the vehicle was recovered.
Traffic was building up on the residential road taking vehicles between Halesowen and Blackheath. Meanwhile, two cars, including a silver Renault Megane, were involved in an accident in Saltwells Road, Dudley Wood, in the early hours.
The accident happened at around 12.30am today although the circumstances are still being investigated by police. The drivers were believed to have suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Fire crews from Woodgate Valley and Smethwick stations were called to another crash in Halesowen late last night.
A car had left the road and struck a lamp post in Mucklow Hill, Halesowen, shortly before 9.40pm. Three casualties were getting free from the car as fire crews arrived. They were treated at the scene by paramedics.
