Train delays after lorry hits level crossing barrier

A lorry which crashed into and broke a barrier at a level crossing in Cradley Heath has caused delays of 20 minutes to trains on that route.

The smash happened at the crossing at Cradley Heath railway station, at the line's junction with Woods Lane, at around 12.30pm.

Network Rail engineers are working to fix the barrier, and while they are on site trains between Smethwick Galton Bridge and Stourbridge Junction will go at a slower speed, meaning 20 minute delays.

Meanwhile, police have closed off Woods Road.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "The barriers need to be repaired, we will do our best to get that crossing reopened as soon as we can, but at the moment we have no time estimation for that."

British Transport Police officers will be speaking to the driver of the lorry and witnesses, as well as retrieving CCTV to determine whether any offences have taken place.
