The 41-year-old victim was treated in hospital for a broken arm and bruising following the smash, but collapsed and died at home on Friday after being released from hospital.

The crash happened close to the Barnett Hill garden centre, in Clent, near Stourbridge.

The woman who died, from the Malvern area, was driving a blue Ford Fiesta which collided with a silver Ford Focus driven by a man, aged 26, from Bilston.

The woman, who was treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, has not been named.

A man and a woman who were passengers in the Focus were treated for bruising and seatbelt injuries.

Both vehicles were badly damaged in the accident which happened at 2.40pm.

Pc Billy Keys, of West Mercia Police, said: "A road death is a tragedy at any time of year, but it is especially difficult when it happens at Christmas and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who subsequently died.

"Given that this is now an investigation into a fatal collision, we are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Force Operations Support Unit at Rubery Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 quoting incident 265-s-251213."
