Firefighters were called at about 2.30pm on Saturday to the Pedmore Fish Bar in Queensway, Wollescote after smoke was seen through the window.

It is believed an electrical fault caused the blaze, which was confined to the fryer but had badly damaged the equipment.

The shop had not yet opened for the day and the owner had to be called to the scene.

Watch commander Rob Forwood, of Stourbridge Fire Station, said: "We were just about to break in when the owner turned up. The range will need replacing. It looks like an electrical fault in the system caused it."
