The 25-year-old was hit by a white Smart car along the busy A458 Park Road, at its junction with Park Lane near to the McDonald's restaurant in Cradley.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford was called to the incident, which happened just after midday yesterday.

The man was anaesthetised at the scene, while a doctor made sure his airway was not blocked.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said the man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for treatment, for what he described as a 'serious head injury'.

He remains in a critical but stable condition today.
