In one incident, a young man had to be cut out of a car following an accident in Wolverhampton that caused a busy road to be closed yesterday.

Police were called to the scene on Parkfield Road at around 11.30am.

Firefighters arrived shortly afterwards and used hydraulic cutters to remove the roof of a black Seat Ibiza, which the man had been a passenger in when it collided with a red Dodge Nitro.

Crew commander Jason Loftus, of Bilston Fire Station, said: "There were two cars involved. One had gone into the back of the other.

"One young man was trapped and complaining of back and neck pain, so the roof was taken off and he was placed on a longboard and taken to hospital."

Police closed the road from its junction with Birmingham Road and reopened it at around 1pm.

In a separate incident, a woman had to be cut free from her car following a collision involving another vehicle, which also uprooted three concrete bollards.

Police were called to the scene on Laburnum Road, at the junction with Walstead Road, in the Delves area of Walsall, shortly before 11.50am.

The woman was taken to Manor Hospital with head injuries.

The vehicles involved were a silver Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Ford Focus.

Soon afterwards, at around 1pm, a blue Fiat Doblo and a silver Vauxhall Corsa were involved in an accident along Bilston Road in Wolverhampton, at its junction with Cullwick Street.

And in Walsall, three cars were involved in a collision on Lichfield Road at around 11.13am.

Firefighters cut a damaged door off one of the cars to free a woman, who was taken to Manor Hospital.
