In the first crash a woman was cut out of her car and taken to hospital after hitting a lamppost.

The smash happened at around 8.30pm last night on Moor Street in West Bromwich, which had to be closed for 30 minutes.

Two fire crews, from West Bromwich and Oldbury, were called to the scene by police, and had to cut out the woman who had suspected spinal injuries.

Watch commander Carl Smith, from West Bromwich fire station, said: "She lost control of the vehicle on the road and went into the lamppost.

"The lamppost was leaning over, so she hit it with quite a bit of impact.

"Police and the Highways Agency were at the scene to make sure the lamppost was safe."

Meanwhile, at 10.45pm, crews from Cradley Heath and Oldbury attended a crash in Highgate Street, Old Hill after a car hit a tree. No-one was trapped.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was also in attendance.

Spokeswoman Claire Brown said: "We were called just before 10.30pm to the junction of Highgate Street and Elbow Street to reports of a car into a tree.

"We had the area support officer and a responder paramedic on scene, two patients were assessed on scene but did not need to go to hospital."
