Dozens of bottles of alcohol and scores of cigarettes went up in flames at Safebury's in Colley Lane, Cradley, during the early hours of yesterday.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by a fault in electrical wires.

Five people in a neighbouring flat got out of the building before the fire took hold after a passerby raised the alarm.

Fire crews spent more than three hours at the scene.

Meanwhile 30 firefighters tackled a blaze at a shop in Bromford Lane, Birmingham yesterday.

Station commander Steve Harris said two people were evacuated from an adjoining building.
