Four injured in Wolverhampton taxi crash
Four people were taken to hospital after a taxi crashed into the central reservation outside a Wolverhampton primary school.
The smash happened on Newhampton Road East at around 5.30am yesterday. It is believed the group were on their way to Wimbledon to see yesterday's men's singles final.
A lamp-post was taken out during the smash, which was attended by police, the ambulance service and fire crews near West Park Primary School.
Three of the passengers had to be removed from the car on spinal boards. Two females suffered neck, chest and back inju-ries, while one male suffered head injuries. Another man suffered minor injuries.
They were all taken to New Cross Hospital, while the taxi driver appeared to be uninjured. Lee Theaker, aged 26, witnessed the crash from his living room window and was first on the scene.
The casino worker had just finished his shift and was kept awake due to the heat. "I had only just been back home for a few minutes and opened a window as it was boiling.
"From where I was sat I could see down the road and out of the corner of my eye I just saw the taxi drive into the central reservation. I rushed to get some shoes on and ran outside."
Mr Theaker called the emergency services and remained at the scene outside his home for several hours. He said: "The four passengers were in a really bad way."
