Husband and wife killed after car hits tree
A driver left seriously injured in a car crash that claimed the life of her husband has now died, police said today.
The woman, aged 70, suffered multiple injuries in the smash at Alveley on the A442 between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth on Sunday.
She was airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for emergency treatment but police today confirmed that she had died yesterday afternoon.
The couple had been travelling towards Bridgnorth in their silver Toyota Rav 4 when it veered across the road and hit a tree.
Paramedics had fought to save the life of the woman's husband, who suffered a heart attack, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Post mortems on the couple are expected to be carried out tomorrow and formal identification is likely to be made on Thursday, police say.
Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery has been informed and an inquest could be opened later this week.
The road was closed for more than four hours after the crash which happened at about 5pm.
Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
