Car abandoned after Coseley smash
A wrecked car was today left on the side of a main route through Wolverhampton – a day after it ploughed into a lamppost at a busy junction.
The silver Nissan Micra was abandoned on the grass verge in Coseley, sparking fears the lamppost could topple over and leaving passers-by thinking the crash had only just happened.
The car was involved in a smash with a Ford Ka on the Birmingham New Road at its junction with Shaw Road, leaving a woman driver with minor injuries.
Police insist the car's owner is responsible for moving it as it is not part of a criminal investigation.
Drivers faced tailbacks through Lanesfield and back towards Dudley following the smash at about 12.10pm yesterday as the traffic lights were out of order.
But the Micra was still on the roadside today in the same position it had been left. Police tape has been wrapped around it.
James Senior, aged 48, said he returned home from work at a shop in Birmingham at about 4pm yesterday and was 'shocked' to see the badly damaged car.
He added: "I thought the crash had just happened but there was no-one around, and I mentioned it to one of my neighbours who said they thought it had happened at lunchtime.
"It looks in a really bad way and I can't believe someone wasn't badly hurt. The car is totally smashed up.
"Usually accidents like this are cleared up pretty quickly so it seems strange that it would just be left for so long."
Police spokesman Lee Page said: "We would only move the car if it's necessary to do so for our investigation, for example with serious road traffic collisions.
"This is only a relatively minor collision and it's down to the owner to remove it. Sometimes we would move it at the owner's request but there is a cost implication to them."
Meanwhile a man has been seriously injured in a three-car crash in Netherton.
A black Alfa Romeo was in a head-on collision with two other cars on St Peter's Road at around 7.20pm.
The elderly female driver of a silver Chrysler suffered minor cuts and bruises, as did the driver of the Alfa Romeo.
The 47-year-old driver of the other car a silver Mazda however, was left trapped in his vehicle by his injuries. Fire crews had to remove the roof of the car and pull him free on a spinal board.
