Firefighters tackle severe Smethwick and Brownhills blazes
Dozens of firefighters spent hours tackling two severe blazes in the Black Country.
A fire visible from the M5 engulfed part of a scrap yard in Smethwick, gutting around 50 cars and causing explosions.
Meanwhile 25 firefighters tackled a deliberately started blaze at a disused warehouse in Brownhills.
More than 20 firefighters attended the Smethwick fire in Lath Lane at around 11pm last night and were dousing flames until the early hours of this morning.
Investigations were taking place today to determine what started the fire, which caused bangs and small explosions as pressurised systems in the cars gave way.
In Brownhills, the former Wernick Event Hire building in Apex Road was targetted by arsonists at 5.50pm yesterday.
The fire was started in an office block inside the main warehouse. It took crews four hours to contain the blaze.
