Family escapes blaze at Coseley home

A mother and her two children had a lucky escape when fire swept through the kitchen of their home early today.

They were roused by a neighbour who also alerted the fire service after spotting smoke coming from the property in Mount Pleasant Street, Coseley, around 4.15am.

Crews from Dudley, Tipton and Bilston were called to the scene.

Firefighter Harry Chonk from Bilston said: "The three occupants were out by the time we arrived. They were very lucky because a neighbour spotted the fire."

He said damage was confined to the kitchen but the cause of the blaze, which started near the cooker, is still not known.
