Paramedics and police were called to Coppice Lane, in Brierley Hill, at around 10pm yesterday following the accident.

Two people travelling in the same car were treated at the scene by paramedics as police diverted traffic around the stricken cars.

One of the motorists, thought to be the driver of one the cars, needed hospital treatment. The injured person was immobilised on a spinal board by paramedics and taken to Dudley's Russells Hall Hospital for further checks.

But they were not believed to have suffered serious injury in the crash.

Another, the passenger in the same vehicle, was checked over by ambulance crews but did not require hospital treatment.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer and a rapid response vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

Recovery trucks arrived to pick up the vehicles and remove them from the road at around 10.45pm and the carriageway was cleared soon after.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "We were called to the scene where there had been a collision between two vehicles.

"Two people were checked at the scene and one taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Thankfully there were not any serious injuries."

The crash took place not far from where pedestrian Christopher Clarke died after being knocked down by a car on the busy A4036 Pedmore Road recently.

Mr Clarke, aged 53, suffered fatal head and spinal injuries in the crash on April 24.

He had been crossing the road at the time.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of the HM Revenue and Customs officer.
