Boy, 3, dies after being hit by car in Birmingham

A three-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Birmingham today.

Police are now appealing for information after the toddler was struck at Rookery Road in Handsworth.

Officers and the ambulance service were called to the road at 10.15am after reports that a grey Vauxhall Astra had hit a child.

The boy was treated at the scene for serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.

He has not yet been formally identified and a post mortem will take place in due course. His next of kin have been informed.

Rookery Road this afternoon remained closed while emergency services investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The 26-year-old female driver of the Astra was voluntarily interviewed and will be spoken to again to at a later date.
