Arrest after man attacked near Wednesfield Police Station

One man has been arrested after a man was left fighting for his life after being attacked near to a Wolverhampton police station.

Officers detained a 32-year-old man last night and he is now in custody.

The arrest follows the discovery of a man unconscious in the street outside Wednesfield Police Station on Thursday night .

An ambulance was called by police officers who came across the victim in Alfred Squire Road at around 11.10pm.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious head and facial injuries, where he remains in a critical condition today.

Detective Sergeant Barbara Dale, from Force CID, said: "After receiving information from the public we last night arrested a man suspected of involvement in this assault.

"The arrested man remains in police custody this morning and will be questioned later.

"We continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the assault or who saw anything which may assist our inquiry to contact us as soon as possible."
