Tributes left after man, 47, killed in Birmingham New Road smash
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of fatal road smash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on a main route through the Black Country.
The 47-year-old male victim, named locally as 'Martin', died on his way to hospital despite help from bystanders, including an off-duty nurse following the smash on the Birmingham New Road at Coseley.
His black Suzuki GSXR 1000 collided with Ford Puma Car on the junction of Vicarage Road at 6.30pm on Tuesday night.
The driver of the car escaped with cuts and bruises.
Yesterday loved ones began leaving flowers at the scene.
One message read: "Thanks for being such a great friend, will think of you every day and make sure Casey knows how great you were. Miss you bro Rest In Peace, till we meet again."
Another said: "So sad, once met, never forgotten. Thank you for being our friend."
One of the more touching tributes said: "To my one and only true love. I will always love you with all my heart. I miss you so much. Martin our thoughts are with you. Thank you for being you."
West Midlands Police are still appealing for witnesses to the fatality and have encouraged anyone with information to call 101.
Those living in the area gave their account of the crash that shut the road for more than three hours.
A resident of Vicarage Road, who did not want to be named, said: "There was a lot of people outside. Some of them got off the bus as it travelled down Vicarage Road because they were distressed at the sight."
Raj Sandhu, a 56-year-old father-of-three who also lives on Vicarage Road, said: "We didn't see anything but we heard a loud bang and came to the window.
"We could hear before that there was a motorbike coming down the road and then there was a loud bang."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man was suffering from a cardiac arrest when its paramedics arrived, and an off-duty nurse was administering CPR.
A spokeswoman said: "The man was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with the doctor and paramedic continuing vital treatment. Sadly nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on arrival at hospital. The driver of the car suffered cuts and bruises."
