Concerned residents called the emergency services at about 11.40pm last night. Firefighters attended and cut the roof off the car to free the men.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene. He was anaesthetised by a trauma doctor before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Two other young men were in the car at the time.

The driver had a cut to his hand and bruises and was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital. The front seat passenger was not injured.
