The 59-year-old motorcyclist fell off his bike after the car in front put on its brakes.

The southbound carriageway was closed off between junction eight with the M5 and junction seven at Great Barr following the smash at around 7.30am, leading to delays of more than 45 minutes.

However, the man was treated at the scene by paramedics and was not believed to be seriously injured.

Traffic queued back to junction 10 at Wolverhampton, with the problems made worse by a broken down lorry nearby.
