Woman dies as fire rips through Little Hay home

A woman died when a fire broke out at a home in Staffordshire.

This was the scene after the severe blaze ripped through the home in Little Hay Lane, Little Hay, near Lichfield.

Police today said an investigation has been launched and they are currently treating the death as unexplained.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the house at about 8o'clock on Saturday morning.

Det Insp Dave Johnston, of Staffordshire Police, said: "Despite the efforts of firefighters, a female was found deceased within the house.

"Police officers are currently with her relatives, who are also local to the area.

"A detailed investigation has been commenced by specialist fire investigators from both the fire service and police.

"At this time, whilst the investigation into the cause is yet to be confirmed, the police are treating the death as unexplained, and our immediate thoughts along with all from the emergency services who attended are with the family and friends of the lady that was involved."

Firefighters from Aldridge and Lichfield were among those called to the scene of the blaze.

The woman was the only occupant inside the house, although nearby residents attended the scene but did not enter the property.
