Three cars were involved in the collision in Birmingham Street under the viaduct at 8.25am.

The region's air ambulance landed on a playing field near the scene before airlifting one victim to hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said a woman in her forties was treated for serious leg and pelvic injuries.

He added: "The patient was immobilised with the use of a neck collar, splints and placed on a spinal board. She was given pain relief before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment and treatment.

"Crews also treated a man, believed to be in his 30s, for a leg injury. The patient was taken by land ambulance to Russells Hall Hospital.

"A car driver in her sixties was treated at the scene by ambulance staff but later discharged."

"The air ambulance landed on playing field adjacent to the scene."

The road reopened at around 10am.

The pedestrian was treated by paramedics but the injuries were not thought to be serious.

There were two other crashes in the Dudley borough this morning.

Six vehicles were involved in one collision on the New Birmingham Road near the King Arthur pub at 6.55am.

No-one was hurt, but the road was partially blocked as drivers exchanged details and moved their cars off the ice.

An hour later, a car collided with a barrier on the Dudley Southern Bypass, blocking one lane next to the Castle Gate Island.

No-one was injured.
