John Kershaw, aged 56, had been taking down Christmas decorations when the accident happened.

Mr Kershaw was knocked unconscious after he fell 10ft from his porch roof and landed headfirst on concrete shortly before 10.30am on Saturday. Mr Kershaw, of Lea Bank Avenue, suffered head injuries.

He was flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham at around 11.30am after being found by his wife's son, Jonathan Doughty, who called emergency services.

Mr Kershaw's wife, Wendy, aged 47, said the family had been told by doctors to prepare for the worst.

"It was a waiting game,"?she said. "They said we should prepare ourselves.

"My mum came down with all the family. He died last night and it had just started snowing. John loved the snow. He sent it to me.

"He didn't drink, he didn't smoke and he didn't deserve this.

"He was one of the best. He'll never be forgotten."

Mrs Kershaw said she had told her husband not to go up on the porch roof because she was concerned it was slippy.

She said she would remember her husband as a "thoughtful and romantic" man who was "like a second father" to her two children, Jonathan, aged 24, and Steven Doughty, 21.

She added: "I still can't believe he's gone.

"He was so young. He was such a thoughtful and romantic man.

"He loved his Xbox. He was a very capable person and a real perfectionist.

"We are all very proud of him.

"He was well loved, a pillar of strength and he'd do anything for anybody," she added.

Mr Kershaw, who was a director at Stourport-based company Hillandale caravans, leaves his sister, Joyce Clark, aged 62, his nephew, David Clark, 39, and his niece Kate Clark, 31.
