Co-op store masked raid witness plea

Police want witnesses after five masked raiders stormed a Tividale Co-op store in the latest in a string of raids on Co-ops.

At the Regent Road branch they took a wheelie bin full of cigarettes and cash.

They forced staff to sit on the floor and then leaped over the counter before filling a wheelie bin with cigarettes and cash from the till

Raiders escaped in a dark-coloured jeep-style vehicle.

Detectives have now issued an appeal for witnesses and information following Wednesday's robbery.

Detective Sergeant Michael Greenland, of Dudley's acquisitive crime team, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a dark jeep type vehicle in the area before the incident.

"We are following a line of enquiry that they may have stolen the wheelie bin just before raiding the store and are eager to hear from anyone who may have seen this.

"Fortunately no-one was hurt although the staff were left very shaken."

Staff at the store refused to comment when approached by the Express & Star.

The raid is the latest on branches of Co-op stores in the region in recent months.
