Thousands of counterfeit CDs, DVDs and headphones worth more than £180,000 were seized during raids on car boot sales in Staffordshire.

Police and trading standards officers struck in Lichfield, Featherstone and Himley, removing 18,000 counterfeit discs and 16 pairs of fake Beats by Dr Dre headphones. Nine people were arrested.

The headphones were discovered at a site off the Bridgnorth Road, Himley, on Wednesday. A man was arrested and bailed. Each pair of headphones would normally sell for £140.

Four traders were arrested and bailed in connection with 8,000 counterfeit CDs, DVDs and computer games on sale at Hilton Lane, Featherstone, on Sunday.

The previous day, 10,000 CDs and DVDs were seized from five stalls at a site in Barracks Lane, Lichfield. Four men were arrested.

Pat Corfield, Staffordshire's cabinet member for communities, said: "Criminals selling counterfeit goods know we are on to them and will continue to pursue them throughout the summer.

People should be aware they are not getting a bargain – they're substandard and can be potentially dangerous."
