Two people have died and a pregnant woman was seriously injured after being hit by cars at busy junctions in Great Barr and West Bromwich over the weekend.

Sarah Child, aged 26, died after a collision near the Cooperative supermarket in Walsall Road, Great Barr, at 6pm on Saturday. Her pregnant sister, aged 24, was rushed to hospital with a serious leg injury. She remains in Good Hope Hospital.

Both are believed to have been crossing the junction from Beeches Road when they were struck at 6pm on Saturday.

The driver, described by witnesses as a dark grey BMW estate, pulled over at the nearby Towers Inn.

The 35-year-old driver, a man from Lozells, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently on police bail.

Meanwhile a 46-year-old man was declared dead after the latest crash, in Forge Lane near to the junction with the Newton Road, West Bromwich, at 10.10pm yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was declared dead at about 10.30pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "The man had suffered multiple serious injuries and was in traumatic cardiac arrest.

"Crews carried out advanced life support, but despite the best efforts of everyone in attendance, nothing could be done to save the man who was confirmed dead at the scene."

Detectives are appealing for information on both crashes. In the Great Barr case, they are keen to speak to the driver of a small blue car.
