A cyclist was this afternoon fighting for his life after his wheel hit a kerb in Wolverhampton, throwing him from his bike.
The man, in his 20s, was riding along Old Hill, Tettenhall, when his tyre hit the kerb opposite Sharratts Family Law Ltd, at around 11.15am today.
He was airlifted to the major trauma unit at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital with severe facial and chest injuries.
Police today cordoned off the full length of Old Hill, from College Road to the main Tettenhall Road, while investigations were carried out. Cars were being redirected further along the Tettenhall Road, to Limes Road.
Senior carer Selbie Smith, based at Woodfields Residential Home, near the scene of the accident, added: "We heard a cyclist had swerved away from a car."
