Stand Up to Cancer: Students and staff at Cannock school take up daily challenge to raise £1,000 for charity
Dozens of pupils and teachers from Cannock Chase High School have ran a marathon in a month for Cancer Research UK.
More than 70 students and staff have been running two kilometres a day as part of the the charity's Stand Up to Cancer show which aired on Channel 4 last night.
They are hoping to raise a £1,000 to add to the ever-growing total pot for the campaign which has exceeded £25 million since launching in 2012.
Organiser Amie McLean, head of Year 8 at Chase High, said: "A student approached me wanting to do some fundraising having lost a close friend to cancer last year. Stand Up to Cancer gave us the perfect opportunity."
The youngsters have created a a 1km 'memory walk' decorated with labels in honour of their friends and relatives who have cancer or those who are affected by it.
Mrs McLean added: "Cancer is something that's affected so many of the pupils' lives they were all really keen to get involved. We're so proud of them because they've had to make a commitment after school for four weeks to clock up enough miles for a marathon."
Pupil Lucy Tebbett, aged 12 said: "I wanted to do this for my granddad and my friend Lyndsey who died of cancer at the age of 12 last year. I'm hoping to raise £100 myself but as a school we hope to raise more than £1,000."
Paula Young, from Cancer Research UK, said: "It's great to see staff and pupils at Cannock High School are up to the challenge and we hope others will be inspired by them."
