The Gentleshaw Primary Academy pupils are planting various wildflower seeds and are looking forward to seeing them blossom when Covid restrictions are lifted in June.

The youngsters have been out walking on nearby Gentleshaw Common and collecting pine cones to make bird feeders.

The children made cards featuring poems and each has a golden star pin attached.

Every one of the school’s 185 children – from nursery to Year 6 - has received a pin to symbolise the hard work they have done during the Covid pandemic.

Headteacher Genevieve Parsons said: “Happy children that love coming to school is always our aim and this week they have bounced into the academy each morning with beaming smiles, excited for the day ahead.

“For us that is the first sign of success.”
