The course, was delivered by S4S Foundation and Active Leaders from Central Sixth, a joint sixth form across Heath Park, Coppice and Moseley Park Schools, with 20 students taking part.

It entailed 10 modules covering skills such as leadership, safeguarding, first aid, marketing, budgeting and career pathways.

Barry Williams, from S4S Foundation, said: “Students said the course helped them learn something positive about themselves, feel more self confident, more able to take a lead role, more confident dealing with people, ready to lead others in healthy activities.

“They also said they have a positive attitude to volunteering.”

Due to Covid-19, a number of students had to self isolate mid-way through the course, however catchup sessions were arranged virtually and all students completed the course.

Barry added: “We were delighted to meet them and feel that they all showed great commitment to the course and strong development of leadership skills and confidence.

“Once the Covid restrictions are lifted we hope to be able to provide all the students with opportunities for further experience to embed the skills they learnt. They are a credit to their schools and themselves.

"The S4S Foundation with Active Leaders very much hope that the programme can be made available to more students in the Black Country and are committed to working with schools and teaching staff to make this happen.”
