The staff member did not contract the virus at Bilston's Ormiston SWB Academy, the school said, and had not been in direct contact with students.

But two other workers have been sent home as a precaution.

A spokesperson for Ormiston SWB Academy said: “We have become aware that a support member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19. The member of staff did not contract the virus at the school, nor have they been in direct contact with any students. They are now self-isolating, and after consulting with Public Health England, a further two members of staff have been sent home to self-isolate as a precautionary measure.

“Thanks to the robust safety processes in place the school is safe to remain open to all students.

“We are continuing to work closely with our local health protection team to confirm that we are taking all the necessary precautions and will be continuing to operate the many other vigorous safety measures we have been implementing.

“Ensuring everyone’s health, safety and wellbeing, whilst maintaining a consistent education for our students with minimal disruption, has been and continues to be our absolute priority for this academic year.”
