Sixth form expansion plan agreed
Sixth form facilities at a school in Walsall are to be enhanced after expansion plans were given the go-ahead.
Aldridge School, based in Tynings Lane, wanted to create a single classroom extension to the existing sixth form study area to create extra space for post-16 students.
And it will now be able to press ahead with the scheme after Walsall Council planners granted permission for it to proceed.
The school said the scheme would provide an additional study space for sixth formers and would have no negative impact on neighbours, which are mostly residents, or existing schools facilities.
It was opened in the 1950s and currently has more than 1,500 pupils on the student roll.
In the application, agents Jacobs Feasey Associates said: “The proposed extension is required to provide 6th Form study room space linked to the existing accommodation at the school.
“The proposed extension is related and supports the existing use and will have no effect on the existing parking and servicing of the site as the proposed extension is on an external grassed area that is not used.
“Its use will not cause any loss of amenity to adjacent properties or the neighbourhood through overlooking or loss of privacy, noise, dust, fumes or other disturbance.
“There will be no increase in traffic movements resulting from the proposed development.”
Chris Berry, interim head of planning, said: “Walsall Council seeks to work proactively with owners, developers and their agents in the public interest to promote sustainable developments in the borough.
“In this instance the council has been able to support the proposed development and has worked with the applicant.”
